Grandma's China

I recently had the joyful experience of hosting a friend for tea, to celebrate Spring, Persian New Year, and March Birthdays.  I pulled out the china set that came from my Grandma T.  I know that she would have loved to join us.
My grandmother was a very skilled yard sale shopper.  In fact, I believe that's where this china set came from.  A few years ago, I picked up this teapot at a consignment shop.  While not the same pattern as the other china, it blends beautifully.  It's a nice size (6-8 cups) and it pours well.  I can see Grandma T smile at my finding this treasure (for not much money).  She wasn't a financially wealthy woman and she had many hardships in her life.  Yet her life was rich with the things important to her.  I remember her playfulness; her laugh; her funny sayings; her biscuits, dumplings and fried chicken; her sewing; her creativity; her resourcefulness; her walks; her sweet tooth and her love and dedication to family.

I didn't start out to make this post about my grandmother.  But there you  have it.  Sometimes we write what's in our hearts.

Your Grandmother would be delighted you shared her stories and her china at tea! For me ... tea is all about stories ... the tea itself, the dishes, the people sharing. Happy Tea Day! :D

Delightful - and a lovely tribute to your sweet Grandmother. I am sure she would be so thrilled that you are sharing her treasured china with friends for such a special occasion.

I love the shape and curves of the teapot and the milk pitcher.

Lifting my cup to you.

I love this post! That teapot goes so well with these teawares. But what I love most of all is that your *rich* grandmother (rich in everything that matters) left such wonderful memories for you! (I of course also love that she was a thrifty shopper -- a kindred spirit!)

And I love that you wrote what was on your heart. Grandma's can be very special and I just know she was there with us that day. I often wear my mother's pearls when I go to tea, so that she is there with me. These ladies would love having these special experiences, I just know they would.

Your tablescape is just lovely, Steph! What a creative centerpiece. And I love the dishes, because I have them! ;-) I bought them about 36 years ago at A & P food store [which doesn't even exist in Michigan anymore, and maybe not anywhere]. Every week they offered a different piece until the set was completed. Your Grandma would have been so proud of you!

Oh, Relevant Tea Leaf - You've made my day by giving more info on this china pattern! Thank you!

BTW - I had my White Balance incorrectly set on these photos. That's why they are blue.
