Jan - National Hot Tea Month

Oolong tea steeping in a small Yixing teapot

January is National  Hot Tea Month, and I have a challenge for you!  My goal is for your to try a new style of tea this month.  If  you drink tea bags, invest in a nice loose leaf.  If you only drink black tea, try an oolong, green or white.  If you've had all of those, try a new style of brewing -  in a gaiwan, for example.  If you've never had bubble tea, now is the time!  Or check out the 31 ways to explore tea offered by Lindsey in her About.com post.

Happy tea explorations!  I hope you'll share your adventures, and let me know if you have any questions about types of tea, its preparation, etc.  If I don't know the answer, I'll attempt to find someone who does.  Cheers!

  1. On December 31st I tried a smoked tea for the first time - it was DELICIOUS! I now have some smoked earl grey and I cannot wait to try it! If you can find some smoked tea and you haven't had some already I recommend you try it - but be prepared for something new! :)

  3. Good idea, Steph! I am interested in learning about Kombucha, so I think I'll make that my goal for the month!

  4. Good challenge. Last week we stayed at a B&B and the proprietors said they had a good black tea; so I was up for the challenge. It ended up being a loose leaf Lipton black tea. Not so good, but I drank it because they were very proud to be serving it. Now I will need to find another challenge too.

  5. My challenge will be to "make time for tea" because these days I don't drink it unless I can cozy up and savor it. However, there are some really good "tea-drinking" shows coming up on PBS starting today. I am recording them and now commit to watching them with some tea.

  6. It's getting harder for me to locate styles of tea I have not yet tried, but there are still quite a few of them out there that I haven't. Sitting at home, waiting to be brewed, is my first tea from Nilgiri, India. Also on my list is mao xie, but I don't currently have any of that.

I'd also like to try a tea from Argentina, and from Iran. These seem to be tricky to find. And I have yet to have any Korean tea, although one of my friends brought me some back from Korea, I just haven't had the opportunity to pick it up yet!

What are you going to try that's new? =)
