A few weeks ago, we attended a vegetarian, Ethiopian-themed potluck. The food was wonderful! The event was extra-special to have many foods prepared by a young woman from Ethiopia. If you've never explored Ethiopian food, it is really worth a try. The food is often served over a spongy, lightly sour tasting bread called inerja. Dishes include lots of chickpeas and other legumes. We took a chickpea wat. Unfortunately, I didn't snap a photo so check out some from others and find the recipe here: Chickpea Wat

The DH and I ate at an Ethiopian restaurant in DC last Fall and it was wonderful. We were looking for something different and we just stumbled upon Dukem Restaurant while wandering around the city. It turned out to be quite an adventure.

There are some very nice Ethiopian restaurants in Portland. Jill loves them and I have enjoyed visiting with her. Very good. Two that Jill likes are Dalos and Blue Nile.

Wow...I have been a vegetarian since 1992 and never had Ethipian food! I love garbanzo beans (chick peas), though. TFS this interesting post. Please stop by for English tea,Persian tea or a hot cup in the Haviland dishes the Lincolns used. :)

I really like the Blue Nile, too! It's definitely a friend & my go-to Ethiopian place.
I've only been to Dalo's maybe once, but I remember it as also being good, similarly Queen of Sheba and Jarra's (though Jarra's is kind of notorious for being s-l-o-w, so going well before you get hungry is definitely in order :).
One I used to eat at quite often was Mudai, but I haven't been there for a while, so I thought I'd give Yelp a look before recommending, and wow! Not so good. (Though, you never know with negative Yelp reviews...)

I love, love, love Ethiopian food! I have made injera bread and a few dishes (including the common berbere seasoning) at home. So good!
