Bob's Red Mill Scottish Oatmeal Scone Mix
I haven't tried a scone mix for a long time, preferring to make them from scratch. However, I spied this version on the shelf recently and wanted to give it a try. Bob's Red Mill is a local company, and I am a fan of its products (lots of whole grains, and also great options for gluten-free). Do you have Bob's Red Mill on your grocer's shelves?
I was pleased! The scones were delicious, lightly sweet and full of warming fall spices. The first ingredient is whole wheat pastry flour, which makes me happy. Wish I had a picture, but we gobbled them up too quickly. ;-)
Do you have a favorite scone mix?
We used to live in Ashland, OR and go to the mill for a day out and a pantry restock. Here in Sequim, WA our local organic farm market stocks some, but I don't think I've seen the oatmeal scone packet. I'm gonna have to look for that!

ReplyDeleteHow neat that Bob's Red Mill is local to you. I buy their products at the grocery store from time to time. I've never tried the scone mix because I prefer to make them from scratch. I have tried a scone mix from King Arthur Flour several years ago and found it very good.

ReplyDeleteJim just was at the mill on Monday, but the only thing he brought me was rice flour - which is a very good thing too. Bob's Red Mill products are wonderful. I use to have a tea friend that made scone mixes, they were delicious. Since she no longer sells her mixes I make from scratch.
ReplyDeleteJust spotted a wide variety of Bob's Red Mill product at our local 'Big Lots' store. Happily grabbed a variety of the beans... wish I had read this review before I was at Big Lots, you have tempted me to try and find it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scone mixes come from a company called "Woodland Fairy Acres" (http://www.woodlandfairyacres.com. They have a line of 22 floral scone mixes, which create a variety of rose, violet, lavender, jasmine, and orange blossom scones!
