Poem in Your Pocket Day (and Giveaway!)

Happy Poem in Your Pocket Day!  Here's my poem that I will carry with me today and share:

I slept and dreamed that life was joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted, and behold, service was joy.

-          Rabindranath Tagore

  6. Coincidentally, my friend at work gave me a poem on a little slip of paper yesterday! I'll carry it around, now that I know about this great holiday. :) Thanks, Steph!

    The first line:

  9. You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...

  10. Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.

  11. I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
    Where everyone hugs
    Instead of tugs,
    Where everyone giggles
    And rolls on the rug,
    Where everyone kisses,
    And everyone grins,
    And everyone cuddles,
    And everyone wins.

Give up sighing for what might have been,
Yesterday's gone, never more to be seen.

    Green Tea
    by Dale Ritterbusch

    There is this tea
    I have sometimes,
    Pan Long Ying Hao,
    so tightly curled
    it looks like tiny roots
    gnarled, a greenish-gray.
    When it steeps, it opens
the way you woke this morning,
    stretching, your hands behind
    your head, back arched,
    toes pointing, a smile steeped
    in ceremony, a celebration,
    the reaching of your arms.

  15. By happy coincidence, I recalled this line: "We had a kettle: we let it leak ..."

I'm more excited about the new poem to be constructed than the giveaway!

Thanks for choosing this beautiful piece of wisdom to share, Steph. I had not thought of it as a poem but I guess it is! My poem is: "Grow old along with me / The best is yet to be." --Robert Browning I like its optimism.

  17. Oh! I love poetry! Here's mine:

    If you think that
    You'll find true understanding
    After you die
    It's a bit too late, isn't it?

  19. Nothing in my pockets today, but in my mind two lines running through the day. They're from Edwin Markham's LINCOLN:

The grip that swung the ax in Illinois
Was on the pen that set a people free.

  20. May I offer:

"Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly and evenly, without rushing toward the future.

Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life."

    Thich Nhat Hanh

    Have a happy day, Steph!

A favorite quote to provoke my thoughts each morning is....

"The lotus flower opens and closes every day in a ritual of renewal"
