We visited two spots. The first one was Swirlz (705 W. Belden - Lincoln Park). Do check out the website - it's great fun! (And notice the cupcakes are $3 each!)
I sampled a Smore's cupcake that was delicious. It had graham cracker in the cake part and was topped with a chocolate butter cream frosting, and a dollop of marshmallow frosting, too. Yummy!
The second cupcake spot we visited was called Cupcakes (613 W. Briar Pl). I didn't indulge here, but it's worth noting that dog treat cupcakes are available, should Spot be waiting eagerly outside.
It's also worth noting that both places had a wide selection of gluten-free cupcakes, tho neither had vegan cupcakes. A marketing opportunity, perhaps?
I'm suddenly having a craving for cupcakes and tea! Dang - no boxes of Betty Crocker handy. After sampling these yummy cupcakes, I don't know if a mix would fulfill me. Perhaps I'm ruined forever until K opens a cupcake store in my town!
I've never tried those two cupcakeries, but I would suggest, on a future trip to Chicago, checking out Sweet Mandy B's. Their cupcakes are nothing short of divine.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty fascinated with the sudden cupcake mania in our country! If K decides to open that shop, I'll be first in line at the grand opening...
ReplyDeleteWow, a cupcake store? I've never heard of that before but it's a great idea! Sounds like you had a grand time in Chicago. Mmmmm....

I love how cupcakes are their own little package. I made frog cupcakes for my little guy's last birthday- with fruit rollup tongues, even!!
ReplyDeleteYummmm... I would love a cupcake right now! What fun to find a whole shop dedicated to cupcakes. A cupcakery.... it's on my list of placed to find.

I bartered a la coccinelle chapeau for my birthday cake this year from the pastry chef at Sweet Mandy B's. That cake was so amazingly rich that it delightfully overwhelmed us as we ate and ate and ate.
ReplyDeleteAfter sampling cupcakes from both stores, I have to say that Swirlz out-ranked Cupcakes! The cupcakes from Swirlz were very moist, not too sweet and even a little bigger than Cupcake's cupcakes; hence the $.50 price difference!
