Happy Poem in Your Pocket Day! Here's my poem that I will carry with me today and share:
I slept and dreamed that life was
joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted, and behold, service was joy.
-
Rabindranath Tagore

Happy Poem in your Pocket Day--Rapidly becoming my favorite holiday!
ReplyDelete"I thought that I would never see a poem as lovely as a tree"...
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Stephanie! I especially LOVE the top photo! It speaks to my heart.
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom" author unknown
ReplyDeleteLove your poem in a pocket.
Oh, yay yay!

"We, who with songs beguile your pilgrimage and swear that beauty lives though lilies die." --James Elroy Flecker, "The Golden Journey"
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the result!
Coincidentally, my friend at work gave me a poem on a little slip of paper yesterday! I'll carry it around, now that I know about this great holiday. :) Thanks, Steph!
ReplyDeleteThe first line:
"The only way is"
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

ReplyDeleteYou have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...
ReplyDeleteDr. Seuss - Oh The Places You'll Go
Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.

I will not play at tug o' war.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.
Shel Silverstein
Give up sighing for what might have been,
ReplyDeleteYesterday's gone, never more to be seen.

ReplyDeleteGreen Tea
by Dale Ritterbusch
There is this tea
I have sometimes,
Pan Long Ying Hao,
so tightly curled
it looks like tiny roots
gnarled, a greenish-gray.
When it steeps, it opens
the way you woke this morning,
stretching, your hands behind
your head, back arched,
toes pointing, a smile steeped
in ceremony, a celebration,
the reaching of your arms.
Wow! These are GREAT! Thank you all!
ReplyDeleteBy happy coincidence, I recalled this line: "We had a kettle: we let it leak ..."
ReplyDeleteI'm more excited about the new poem to be constructed than the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteThanks for choosing this beautiful piece of wisdom to share, Steph. I had not thought of it as a poem but I guess it is! My poem is: "Grow old along with me / The best is yet to be." --Robert Browning I like its optimism.
Oh! I love poetry! Here's mine:
ReplyDeleteIf you think that
You'll find true understanding
After you die
It's a bit too late, isn't it?

'The moon's the North Wind's Cookie, he bites it day by day...'
ReplyDeleteAlways been my favorite poem.
Nothing in my pockets today, but in my mind two lines running through the day. They're from Edwin Markham's LINCOLN:
ReplyDeleteThe grip that swung the ax in Illinois
Was on the pen that set a people free.

May I offer:
ReplyDelete"Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly and evenly, without rushing toward the future.
Live the actual moment. Only this moment is life."

Have a happy day, Steph!

A favorite quote to provoke my thoughts each morning is....
